"Any band that gets themselves banned before hitting the big time has a lot
of worth and importance in my book. Caeser Pink and The Imperial Orgy is
one of those bands that is hell bent on doing everything possible to allow
themselves total creative freedom when it comes to their art, music and
performances (which are legendary,) and that alone has gotten them into a
bit of hot water.
Grouping in 1995 at Penn State University's Film Department, the band
started to put together their signature sound and stage show and almost
immediately gigs were canceled due to threats from Christian organizations.
Luckily, this band of well-rounded individuals formed a tight-knit clan,
each bringing their own creative flair to the project, never waning to the
uproar that surrounded their goal to break and just score a local gig.
Then they wised up and moved to New York City in 1995.
Freely now, the band could express themselves without the
hassle of getting arrested. Caeser Pink and The Imperial Orgy
shows are known to be like a sex-induced drug trip with band/audience
interaction.
Musically, a diverse set of styles are thrown into the mix
like funk and blues. Video is projected behind the band as
they perform and Caeser Pink easily seduces everyone in the
audience with his animalistic stage presence. And from the
looks of the video I received from the band, Pink is a little
bit more than just hypnotizing. Pink is at times during his performances said to be
taken or possessed by the spirit of the God, Cernunnos.
As he offers women audience members to take a bite from an apple
he usually carries around, he uncannily has a way to make the audience
feel comfortable enough to throw their inhibitions out the window.
An Imperial Orgy show is not for the shy wallflower. It is a truly
surreal concert experience for anyone who attends you may never
be the same again.
Also casualities of an Imperial Orgy show have been well
documented. It has been known that audience members have become so
obsessed with Pink that they actually start believing they are having
a relationship with him. Whatever this band is doing, it's effective.
Pink is an awfully busy, engaging man. His list of accomplishments
run amuck: multimedia artist, surrealist beat poet, the new rock and roll
icon for the millenium, guru of pagan pan-sexuality to many, and most
definitely ahead of his time.
The misunderstanding of Pink's work is nothing new to him. As an experimental
filmmaker, Rush Limbaugh accosted Pink's work as a symbol of anti-establishment
propaganda. Another kudos goes to Pink for once organizing a street theatre
protest where he has costumed associates place loaves of Wonder Bread on the curbs
of donwtown Manhattan. On each loaf was an 'advertisement' from Satan.
Other members that complete this party is Isabelle, who is a classically trained
pianist and plays synthesizer and samplers, Kighkey DeGogh, who does honors as the bass player,
Tony Coque on guitar, Samantha D., who sings and dances, Ivette Oliveras, who sings and dances also, and
new drummer Frank Picarazzi. - by Edie, Editor-in-Chief of Dig This Real Magazine
